There is a recent increase in meat sheep consumption in Brazil. Rearing sheep in tropical conditions is difficult because of the verminosis, which causes a lot of damage to the animais. The helminth control, especially Haemonchus contortuJ; is very difficult, because of the resistance that this nematode presents to the anthelmintcs. The identification and selection of animais genetically resistant will likely reduce dewormers utilization. The objective of this work was to compare the performance of four meat type sheep breeds, under an intensive management system, subjected to natural gastrointestinal parasites infections and to know the genetic variability of sheep females, classified as their resistance to nematodes levels, trying to search a relationship between resistance to nematodes and genetic markers. |
